HI	It is the pervasive muzzling of Federal employees that has eroded my belief that this administration would live up to its campaign promises. It seems that career employees, and even appointed employees with fantastic credentials, are leaving or being fired from public service en masse. MD	Being a U.S. Park Police wife, I am aware of the of the deplorable situation the National Park Service has put upon the USPP employees, and consequently, the citizens of the United States. USPP is so incredibly understaffed and overworked, especially in Patrol. On most days, there is not enough coverage to compensate for one person calling in sick. This was evident on Thanksgiving 2003, when after one officer call in sick, the Greenbelt station had to backfill the mandatory coverage in DC with one of the two Patrol officers. This left one officer to patrol the Balto-Wash Parkway on the most traveled day of the year. Finally, when Chief Chambers speaks out about condition they're in, she gets reprimanded for it. What kind of people are running the National Park Service? I've known far better management in the fast food business.
